On Wednesday, June 15th, 2016, Commonwealth North hosted a panel forum on the future of health insurance in Alaska.
Health insurance rates have been rising dramatically in recent years impacting both individuals and businesses in Alaska. In May, Moda Health announced their intention to discontinue offering individual health insurance plans in 2017, potentially leaving Alaska with only a single provider of individual health insurance next year. The Alaska Division of Insurance has said that rates may increase 40% in 2017.
With these challenges on the horizon, it is critical that Alaskan businesses and policy makers understand the implications of these changes and implement policies to improve the health care marketplace in the state.
