DATE STUDY OVERALL SUMMARY ASSUMPTIONS RECOMMENDATIONS CHAIRS
November 1981 Moving North Slope Natural Gas to Market: A Positive Alternative for the Nation A study of the proposed natural gas pipeline. Both the cross-Canada and all-American plans are discussed. This study re-examines the issues raised in the 11/81 natural gas study. 1. The North Slope contains a vast, untapped supply of natural gas.
2. National policy makers must determine if the Alaska natural gas transportation system is in the best interest of the nation.
3. In addition to federal subsidies and loan guarantees, Alaska will have to participate in the financing of the gas line.
4. It is in the nation's best interest for Alaska to add value to its raw resources through in-state processing.
5. The all-American gas line proposal is being ignored. It is a viable alternative that should be considered.
1. The state should take the leadership in fostering the building of a high-pressure gas line from Prudhoe Bay to tidewater.
2. Alaska should provide equity investment or loan guarantees to the pipeline project if it is built through Alaska to an ice-free port.
