We've been working with some local teachers from the Anchorage School District to make this event pop. Please join us to mingle and discuss education in Anchorage and throughout the state. What's most important for us when we think of educating future Alaskans? How do we address a looming teacher shortage? What can we do to make education a priority down in Juneau?

Executive Director's Report

Rick Barrier

Barrier

Last month I thought spring was in the air.  Wrong!  Looks like winter out there today.  At least it is light, and the sun has some warmth.

Before I forget, I want to thank the Rasmuson Foundation for their generous grant to support our technology.  A new computer network and management software will give us much more capability to communicate with our membership and manage our day to day activities. Thank you!

April is shaping up to be another exciting event month for Commonwealth North.  Things will “heat up” on April 17 when the Iceland Energy Delegation presents the exciting story of how geothermal energy has transformed the economy of that country.  The day following that, Mike and Tim Bradner will be meeting with us again at a First National Bank Alaska sponsored event, to discuss the concluding moments of the current legislative session.  On April 29 we welcome Gary Pruitt, President and CEO of the McClatchy newspaper chain, to discuss changes and opportunities in the rapidly evolving media world.   If that is not enough, our members will have a chance in April to meet with two experts in their respective fields: Bob Gagosian with the Consortium for Ocean Research and Education, and Ron Goetzel, Director of the Emory University Institute for Health and Productivity Studies.

Last, but not least, let’s get us a gas pipeline! See you at our upcoming events.
