“Managing Alaska's Assets”

An annual examination of the performance of Alaska’s assets
Noon, Thursday, January 24, 2008
Anchorage Sheraton
As shareholders in “Alaska Inc.” the citizens of Alaska need to be informed about how the assets of the company are performing. What do we have? How are the assets being managed? Are the assets performing as well as they could be? Do changes need to be made?
Commonwealth North began an annual review to report on value, income, and prospects of Alaska’s key assets. A panel of the State's major asset managers was asked to identify what criteria they should be judged upon and to identify emerging public policy issues related to the assets under their responsibility. Ultimately, the program served to track performance of assets –and asset managers—against that criteria and other metrics.
The moderator was Mead Treadwell, CEO Venture AD Astra, Commissioner, U.S. Arctic Research Commission, and Senior Fellow, Institute of the North, and the panelists were Mike Burns, Executive Director, Alaska Permanent Fund Corp.; Pat Gamble, President & CEO Alaska Railroad Corp.; Mort Plumb, Director, Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport; Kevin Banks, director, Division of Alaska Oil & Gas; Dick Mylius, Director, Division of Mining, Land & Water; and Dan Fauske, CEO/Executive Director, Alaska Housing Finance Corp.
This was a very educational program on an important topic for all Alaskans. This was also the CWN Annual membership meeting and included the distribution of the annual report and the announcement of election results.
