As a follow-up to our recent forum on opioid addiction, the Health Care Study Group will be meeting Thursday to dive deeper in to the public policy issues and examine the full scope of Alaska’s opioid addiction crisis. Due to the scale of this challenge, Governor Walker has issued a disaster declaration establishing a statewide Overdose Response Program, issued an administrative order directing state departments to prioritize resources to combat the opioid epidemic, and signed opioid reform legislation.
Andy Jones, Director of the Office of Substance Misuse and Addiction Prevention (DHSS) and Deputy Incident Commander for Governor Walkers Statewide Opioid Epidemic Response, will expand on his recent presentation to CWN and further discuss the State’s programs to address opioid addiction.
Representatives from Federal and State law enforcement and Alaska’s Congressional Delegation have also been invited to present.
